NEIGHBOURHOOD [ABOUT L'ESPRIT]

L’Esprit Condominiums (formally called “MTCC 905”) are located in downtown Toronto a block away from the intersection of Wellesley and Jarvis streets. Politically, we are in Ward 27 (Toronto City Council) and the provincial/federal riding of Toronto-Centre.

We are a 8-10 minute walk to two subway stations (either Sherbourne on the Bloor-Danforth line or Wellesley on the Yonge-University-Spadine line). In addition, we are well-served by two near-by bus routes (75 Sherbourne and 94 Wellesley) and one streetcar line (506 College). There is a dedicated east-west bike lane on Wellesley Street and another north-south bike lane on Sherbourne Street (click here for cycling map). By car, both the Don Valley Parkway and Gardiner Expressway are only a few minutes away.

One of the many advantages for L’Esprit residents is our downtown location. It is easy to walk or cycle to numerous points. The website Walk Score ranks our neighbourhood “a walker’s paradise!”

A number of local businesses are within walking distance. Some operate out of elegant historic properties. Whether you’re looking to buy groceries or gifts, to dine out or grab a drink, multiple choices are available. Most of the businesses are members of the Church Wellesley Village Business Improvement Area The “Village”, as it’s often called, is a vibrant community with a rich history. In 1826, Alexander Wood, a pioneering magistrate and merchant, bought the land on which our community now sits. As gay men were called a “molly” at the time and Mr. Wood was involved in a scandal which suggests that he was gay, locals came to call the area Molly Wood's Bush. In 2005, the BIA erected a statue of Alexander Wood (with an information plaque) at the NW corner of Church and Alexander streets. The area is still home to thousands of LGBTQ residents and every June, serves as the hub of Pride Week celebrations.

L'Esprit is also very close to the lively Cabbagetown area. It, too, has an array of businesses bordering an attractive neighbourhood comprised of historic houses. Parks along the Don River are just a 15-minute walk away!
